Heb 10:39  "But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls."

If you didn't have faith in the chair you were about to sit down in, you would stay standing. If you don't have faith in the Love of God you would shrink back when He calls your name. If you didn't have faith in the sacrificial substitution for your sins, by Jesus Christ. You would continually be trying to pay a debt you cannot repay. If you didn't believe in the righteous purity of the justness of God, you would continue to defy His law and flaunt your rebellion in the face of grace.
Heb 11:1  "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

Faith changes your perspective but not only that your mind, your heart, your actions are all changed by faith. Faith is sure and steady, faith looks to what it hopes for and begins to grasp it. Faith is an unshakable conviction of having what has not yet appeared.
This is the way that people before the coming of Christ, now share in His finished work of redemption. They are saved because they believed and it changed their walk in life.

Heb 11:2  "For by it the people of old received their commendation."

There is no way to even understand the how, what and why of creation without faith that God spoke and it came into being. God's power is the creating and sustaining force of all that is seen and all that is yet unseen.

Heb 11:3  By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Faith caused Abel's sacrifice to be acceptable to God and give him peace. Abel's faith was a faith that resulted in obedience. Unbelief manifested in envy made Cain act unfaithfully toward God and do evil in murdering his brother.

Heb 11:4  "By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks."

Faith is so powerful it allowed Enoch to go to the presence of God without suffering the punishment, the sentence garnered by unfaithful rebellion in the form of physical death.

Heb 11:5  "By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God."

Faith please God, you can't come close or enter His presence without belief, trust and obedience faith. If you do have faith and you seek Him with all your heart you will find great and unimaginable reward.

Heb 11:6  "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."
