#revelation #endtimes

Blogging through Revelation has been an interesting, sometimes difficult experience, with the terrible thought of judgment and the consequences of rebellion and sin against a Holy amazingly patient, graciously absolutely loving God. It has also been a steady reinforcement of the redemptive power of falling upon His Absolute Love and sacrifice on my behalf, so that whatever life brings I will ultimately be safe and happy one day in His presence.

The journey of going through Revelation on my own began when earlier this fall our church began going through the book on Sunday mornings. I have been contemplating all this week on two statements that I heard last week.

The sixth chapter was being read and in the midst of the rider on the black horse, with scales in his hand I heard this "and do not harm the olive oil and the wine." Rev 6:6. I had never heard it or seen it like that. The "olive oil" and the "wine". Certainly there is a type of weighing, measuring, judgment of cost going on here, but "do not harm the olive oil and the wine".

Olive oil and wine are references throughout the New Testament of the work of the Holy Spirit- the Holy Spirit's presence and power. A reference to anointing- having the Holy Spirit.

It reminded me of two passages in Matthew where Jesus talks about oil and wine in the context of the inter advent period.

Mat 9:14 "Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?" And Jesus said to them, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved."

Mat 25:1-13 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, 'Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.'"Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise answered, saying, 'Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.' And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.' "But he answered, 'Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.' "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Have you asked Him for the gift? He is Absolute Love.

Luk 11:9-13 "And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

I will talk about the second thing that I heard, that I have thought on all week, in tomorrow's blog.
