1Th 2:1 -6  "For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain. But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict.  For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive,  but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.  For we never came with words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed--God is witness. Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ."

Even though some don't like us and what we stand for, it is well worth it for us to talk about the mercy, grace forgiveness and love of God. He is Absolute Love. Yes, we suffered the shame of being treated as dirt and were thrown out. That doesn't matter our motivation is not to be accepted or approved of by others. Our objective and motivation is pure, forthright as messengers of the Love of God. All of this only tests us to see if God has really taken over our hearts. We don't want praise or payment, it is not for our glory. The Glory belongs only to God, though as being sent by God we could be more demanding. We are instead, able to be boldly humble by God's grace.
This is not what you experienced in our presence. We were not demanding, we were like parents taking loving care of needy children. We gave everything of ourselves, working hard day and night. We did not want to be in any way a burden, while we taught you of the gift of God's Son, Jesus; dying on a cross for you so that you might receive forgiveness and life from God. We shared with you the life of Christ, for He is risen and gives you all things for peace and righteousness. He wants you to be ready to walk without shame in His Kingdom, taking part in the Glory of His victory over death and sin.

1Th 2:7-12  "But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children.  So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil: we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless was our conduct toward you believers. For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory."

What joy and gratefulness we received from God's Word taking hold of your lives. It changed your heart and lives so that you became Christ followers. You joined with all the called out ones from Judea in helping and loving them, because you also suffered the persecution of your own countrymen, just like the Jewish leaders and religious bigots in Judea persecuted Jesus, His followers and the Prophets. They either kill or drive out those who want to teach about the Love of God. They don't want salvation from God to be given to those outside of their little religious huddle. I, Paul know all about this, I used to be the one killing and persecuting believers in Jesus Christ.
God in His grace rescued me, as He did all who come to Christ. We are all sinful and God made a way to come back to His loving arms.
Even so there comes a time of judgement and it has come upon the Jewish leaders in Judea.

1Th 2:13- 16  "And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers. For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. For you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews, who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all mankind by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved--so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But God's wrath has come upon them at last!"

We were torn away from your fellowship by the religious bigots, but our hearts still were with you. We have wanted to see you for a long time and make it back to fellowship with you, but Satan opposed us in doing so.

1Th 2:17, 18  "But since we were torn away from you, brothers, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face, because we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, again and again--but Satan hindered us."

For the only thing we have to feel joyful and proud about is what Christ has done in those around us. Our joy and glory is found in the lives God has touched through us.

1Th 2:19, 20  "For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?  For you are our glory and joy."
